What you’ll need to clean your shower effectively
You reallydon’t need much to keep a clean shower. Using just the tools below, you can keep a clean bathroom without any harsh chemicals, ammonia, or bleach; better for the environment, better for you.
1. Hard-bristle brush and/or grout brush
With the exception of fabric shower curtains, a hard-bristle or grout brush is perfect for loosening grime buildup and mildew on every single shower surface. Make sure your brush’s bristles can reach into tight spaces and 90° angles.
2. Microfibre cloths
Microfibre cloths are incredibly absorbent and perfectly suited for lifting dirt and grime up and away from surfaces. Following up the hard-bristled brush with a microfibre cloth helps to remove all grime, even from tougher-to-reach spots. They’re also ideal for drying and polishing steel or chrome shower components.
3. Eco-friendly shower cleaner OR a strong dish soap solution in a spray bottle
Shower grime and buildup, while annoying and unpleasant, is not difficult to remove. If you have a dedicated eco-friendly shower cleaner, go ahead and use it. If not, regular dish soap has enough grease-cutting power to tackle even aggressively built-up grime. We recommend creating a solution in a spray bottle of 1 part dish soap to about 8 parts water.

How to clean your shower in 5 minutes
1. Clear shower and spray surfaces with hot water and soap
Remove any ‘shower soldiers’ (shampoo and other bottles, razors, loofahs, etc.) and spray the walls and shower door, where applicable, with hot water, followed by the soap solution. Allow to sit for 2 to 3 minutes to loosen the grime.
2. Start by clearing the drain
Remove any hair or other debris from the drain before you start cleaning. You don’t want to have to sift through dirty water and soap scum later while begging the shower to drain.
3. Scrub like you mean it
Use the hard-bristled brush to aggressively scrub the tiles, grout, glass door, and stainless steel elements in your shower. If your shower is exceptionally dirty, it might take more than 5 minutes to loosen all the dirt; however, after a more intensive first clean and with regular follow-ups, you’ll be surprised at how well dish soap removes shower grime.
4. Rinse and dry
Use a handheld showerhead to rinse all the loose dirt, grime, and scum away. If you don’t have a handheld showerhead, wipe down the shower using a microfibre cloth and rinse as needed. Make sure to cover the taps, tops and sides of the door, and the top of fixed shower heads.
Properly rinse your microfibre towel and dry the steel and glass components for streak-free cleaning and a sparkling shine.
